Credit & Copyright: Jean W. Allen from Flat Rock, NC Hemlock Cones:"These tiny, intricate cones are barely an inch long, actual size. The Eastern Hemlock has been under attack by the hemlock wooly adelgid, a tiny, aphid-like creature imported from Asia. If left untreated, an infected tree will die within 4-10 years. Chemical treatment can save individual trees in landscape plantings but is impractical for forests."
