As the world's population grows, fresh water will become more and more of an issue. Marc Reisner's fascinating book Cadillac Desert: The American West and Its Disappearing Water gives a fascinating account of modern attempts to store and re-purpose existing water flows, and hints at some of the amazing feats of engineering that may be needed to supply ever growing population centers and the farmland that feeds them with fresh water in the future.
