We lived in Michigan 30 yrs with many trips to Canada until retirement in VA. All that time I hoped to see a moose but never did. What an encounter!And what a great photo!

Thanks, Poppyseed! Fortunately, she didn't have any calves with her or she probably would have been more aggressive. We didn't stay long enough to know from whence she had come or where she was going.

Thanks, Rob! We came upon her somewhat by accident, standing in willows about 30 feet from a back road in heavy snow. It was snowing hard enough that my autofocus wouldn't focus for all of the intervening snowflakes so I had to manually focus in very flat light, which took me a while. When she noticed me, she stared at me for a few seconds and then went about munching the tender willows, completely unperturbed. It was a breathtaking experience!
