Thanks Christine! Yes it is meant to be so twisted. It is called CORYLUs (Hazel) & this one is the Corkscrew Hazel, C. avellana "Contorta", so it's aptly named.

This is indeed a lovely shrub. I wonder why the branches are twisted like that? Mot attractive and so different. And of course, I do love catkins. :)
